GROWTH & TRANSFORMATION
How I think
about growth.
A developing perspective, shaped by building a business and the questions I’m still working through.
I’m particularly interested in how businesses transform as they move from early-stage traction to meaningful scale.
Finding demand
I start with the customer: what do they need enough to act on? A promising idea becomes a business only when someone sees value in it. Conversations and small experiments can reveal more than an elaborate plan.
Positioning
Why would someone choose this business? I’m interested in how a clear audience and a specific problem make an offer easier to understand. A focused message gives people a reason to pay attention.
Client acquisition
In the agency’s early days, I sent more than 3,900 emails offering free consultations and services to prospective clients. That experience makes me think about both persistence and relevance. Sending a message is only the beginning; the offer still has to give the person receiving it a reason to respond.
Retention
Winning a client creates a responsibility. Keeping that relationship means understanding expectations, communicating clearly, and delivering consistently. I see retention as a useful test of whether the business continues to create value.
Systems
Serving more clients changes the work. Tasks that once lived in one person’s head need a repeatable process, clear ownership, and a way to spot problems early. My interest in systems comes from trying to run an agency alongside school.
Scale
I’m interested in growth that a business can actually support. More customers bring more coordination, decisions, and demands on quality. My developing view is that scale depends on how well a company adapts its operations as those demands change.
The question I keep coming back to: what needs to change inside a business so it can keep growing well?
